The Interactive Villages Dropdown Category Selector will allow sellers to use an AJAX-style dropdown selector to pick the categories for placing an ad in the Place Ad form. Rather than having to "drill down" into multiple subcategories, this tool lets users pick the main category, then a dropdown for subcategories will appear automagically until a terminal category is selected. Very slick!

Fyi, this Addon also includes the ability to limit a User Group to list in only ONE category/subcategories via ACL control:

The ACL allows the site administrator to limit the categories that users are allowed to place listings in based on their user group.

Place "Top Level" category numbers separated by a comma in the box next to each of the user groups. This will limit the users within that group to only be able to place listings within these categories and their sub-categories

This would be extremely helpful and necessary for event posting. Then it would constrain users to use a uniform input allowing proper sorting on year first then month then day. Looking forward to it.

Read this again and missed it the first time where this addon will limit the categories that groups can post in. This is what I was after a few months back as this is very important to me. There are a few categories where I only want to have certain business be able to post to and this will allow me to be able to do that. Now if you could get it so that you can make it so only certain uploads can go in certain categories then that would be icing on the cake. I will definitely be getting this one.

Are you saying that you want to allow a group to post to a category but not upload images to that specific category?

Yes you are correct I would like to limit what anybody can do to the ads based on Group membership. The big ones are limiting posting to specific categories(you already took care of that one) Allow or disallow the use of HTML in a post and allow or disallow uploads or pdf's, images or whatever you have listed as allowed uploads.
