Thumbs up Anyone interested in Sponsoring Geo-WP Addon?

Would you like to sponsor a Geo-WP addon?

    What does this addon do?

It will allow your GEO members to submit articles on your WP blog using their GEO id and password.
(You would disable normal wp signup - as geo members would be able to use their own info to login to wp)

    Project cost: $400

will take 30 days to complete.

I will kick in the first $50

I need 7 others to kick in $50

The more that kick in, the less it will cost us all in the end.
totals will be added up, divided, and appropriate refunds sent (if any)

If 10 people kick in $50, then everyone would be entitled to a $10 refund,
and your geo-wp addon would end up costing you only $40...

Project will not start until at least $350 is received.

    Please send PM if interested.

updates will be provided in this thread.

I would be very interested in this if it was going to provide many more options and functionality like automatically posting new, featured and latest ads and auctions as they are posted to geo. if these are options I am willing to discuss further.

    more features mean more money.

This is only meant to be GEO-WP Bridge, so your geo members can submit wp articles/content.
I would rather have unique content, then content already in geo ported over to wp....
and unqiue content is more important then content already found on your geo site...

Give me a better idea of what you are looking for; I will see what I can do; I assure
you this would cost a bit more, and we would need more sponsors....

and you would be responsible for any template design, any costs that I quote
is for geo-wp functions only; Not how good your wp looks when it is done....
(looks depends on your wp template or design)

I am not really looking to be able to port my geo content over to wp. I just want to be able to display the content from my geo site on the (front page) which would be the wp installation. Using wp for my front page will give me the ability to also display latest posts from the community and latest activity from geo. this may not require a geo addon to accomplish. My programming skills are next to none so if someone with better knowledge of this could shead some light on it that would give me a better idea if it is needed or not.

I am pretty much looking to be able to display featured ads and auctions in a home page slider (which I think wp has many more options to do this then geo) so say someone comes to my site and posts an ad and pays to have their ad or auction featured it would then automatically display under the proper tab within the home page slider.

For the rest of the functions I would like to be able to display special deals, top ranked stores and sellers, newest ads and auctions etc... The function you are looking for is also a good one but one thing I have found is that it's hard to get users to post articles to your site that

    1. Are of good quality content

    2. Is not used for the sole purpose of creating backlinks to their own site etc...

I think this may encourage spammers unless their are measures put into place to prevent this.

I am speaking from experience about the submitting of content and it all being for spamming back linking purpose.

Because I run a few sites that are non-geo sites that have this same functionality of allowing users to post their own content such as blogs and articles and the spam to these sites is so bad (not only on my sites but many others users as well) that many of us if not all of us have disable these functions and options.

I am not trying to say its not a good idea to do this but rather just trying to share my experiences with allowing users to submit blogs and articles to your site. If and when your site were to become popular and word spread you will be spending a lot or all of your time fighting and deleting spam.

Another thing is that the spam to these sites were so bad and most of it was coming from china that I contacted my host and asked if they could block that country from accessing my server and they did which help fight that spam about 95%. Even though my host put the block into place it's not to say they cannot access my site through proxy but it helped a ton.

I might not be understanding this addon very clearly either.

One question I have is: do you think it's typical that people who come to a classified or auction website to buy and sell things are also looking to post articles and blogs?

I was looking for more of a content integration addon but I think this addon you are talking about is for user interaction only. If that's the case then I will withdraw my vote to be involved simply because I would rather post to my own blog and just leave it up to site visitors to comment. I would then base the need for this addon on the fact of weather or not users were actually interacting with my blog posts by commenting with relative non spammy comments.

Hope this clears up what I was looking for and also provides you more idea of this addon. Sorry for such a long post but I just wanted to hit on a couple senarios.

My idea was not to turn wp into a slider...I think there are slider addons for geo already...You could sticky the first wp post, and you would be able to insert certain geo tags
into the wp post to display whatever geo info you want, such as current posts, featured, auction info, etc...wp is designed for content, whats a slider going to do for google?
I guess you could also place certain tags into members posts (automatically)...remember, these posts can get indexed also...

    1. Are of good quality content

    2. Is not used for the sole purpose of creating backlinks to their own site etc...

Sorry, I can not help you with your spam issues. This addon would be for your members as an extra incentive to submit their articles; to a point, you have
to at least accept a couple links in the footer of their articles, otherwise, why would they submit articles? I disagree that it would encourge spammers, why?
because access is limited to your geo members, and outsiders would not be able to submit at will...if your geo members are submitting spam on your wp
then they are already submitting spam on your geo site...and thats not the fault of the addon, thats your issue, as far as the addon is concerned,
if you are getting spam on your wp site, then you would be able to limit their submitting access to the blog, boom, issue solved; Because if your members
can not act responsible, then you kill their rights to submit articles.

One question I have is: do you think it's typical that people who come to a classified or auction website to buy and sell things are also looking to post articles and blogs?
Let me ask you this, why does warrior forum have an open blog? Why submit articles to a blog, when they can just post on the blog? one word! Indexing....
absolutely! people that post on classifieds have something to sell, and they probably have articles of what they sell, could be a review, whatever...
why do people submit their articles to article directories? maybe they have something to sell...wp is about content; content means indexing...
its about content, and indexing....but if you have spamming issues, then that is something you have to handle on your level....

I was looking for more of a content integration addon but I think this addon you are talking about is for user interaction only. it is user interaction, but this does not limit you out, its your wp, you can submit content also.

I think what you are looking for is more visual effects...there is a big difference between articles and comments...
comments is not content...If you want to rely on comments then fine, but I am aiming higher then that....
google will find more value in a half ass article then they would in "that is a nice article" jusy say'n

You want this addon to do more then what it would be designed to do...Geo-forum addon serves its purpose by
allowing geo members to log into your forum using the same user info (mission complete) the geo-wp addon
does the same thing, it allows geo members to submit articles to your wp blog (mission complete) thats like saying
I am not satisfied with the geo-forum addon, lets add more features to it...lets make it dance more...
I am not saying a few more things can not be added, but this is also cost issue too...the more you try to
make this addon dance beyond what it is designed to do, then the more the addon will cost....

If you are not interested, then thats ok...I am trying to explain things the best that I can....

I understand your biggest issue appears to be spam...sorry to say this is not a Geo Spam Addon...
however the addon is designed to allow geo member access while keeping out non members....
spam is a root issue, and will never go away, as long as there is a site to submit too,
then there will be spammers, and not just from china, even your local members can turn into spammers....

Do you think craigslist does not have to deal with spam?
I think they have a small team to deal with spamming issues also...unless you think
their automation keeps 100% of spam off their site...If we are not willing to deal
with spam, then none of us should be here...spam is a fact of life....

    good luck...

I am interested! NOBODY else is?

But I guess I am surprised that it would cost that much... I suppose I am really "underestimating" what is involved here but it "seems" that it should only be a matter of getting 2 databases to share user info, right? I bumped another similar thread up a bit ago before coming across this one..... am hoping that either the current "bridge" addon can be modified to work with blogs or a similar variation can be made. keep me posted!

well.... I THOUGHT I was going to have this solved but so far no dice. There was an "older" WP external authentication plugin that had not been updated in a few years/to the current versions but recently another developer took it over/revived it etc... I installed it and followed the steps, even talked to Geo regarding the hash method etc but just can't get it to work.... feel so close I can taste it and, at least for me, a Wordpress "bridge" would be so much better than the forum bridge I currently have.... anywho, if anyone else is interested in sharing users/logins with WP and wants to tinker and maybe get it working, check this out and be sure to let us know if you get it to work!
