Hello
Let me see if I understand what you want, Do You want to promote your site ?
I think the newspaper is the best place to promote your site, a Sunday magazine is wonderful, although it is something expensive but that works well.

If you are looking to drive traffic to your site, Google would be the solution. You should make sure your site is SEO optimized and consider using Google Adsense for paid advertising for your site until your organic listing are improved through improved page ranking.

Hi,
I have a lot of luck with press releases. Write a good press release (look up how to write press releases in a search engine), and keep it at about 400 words. Send it out to every media outlet you can think of. Be sure to contact every outlet (newspaper, tv station, etc.) beforehand and ask them who to send the release to and their preferred method of receiving a press release (fax, email, etc). Also, try to send along "good visual," i.e. a photo or photos.
Remember, the media needs new stories all the time so don't assume they won't be interested in yours. There's a good chance they will be IF you send out a properly written press release. That's key. Also, the media loves "good visual." Even if your good visual is just a photo of you working at your computer, if it's a good photo they might like it. If you have a better idea for a photo, do it. As for what the press release is about, pick a topic. The launch of your site, the anniversary of your site, the growth of your site, etc.
You can use mass distribution services for your press releases, but my best luck has been with contacting local and regional media outlets personally. In my experience the local and regional coverage often has far-reaching exposure and is very helpful.
Writing a press release and researching who to send it to does cost you time, but not money. Once you get the hang of it there's a good chance your time will be rewarded.
Best of luck.
Such an endless topic... I agree with the above. Don't forget, it's just as important to have a way in which to measure your results, as it is to get results. How else will you know what works & what doesn't?
I happen to be in LA, my site is for motorcycle goods, the X-games are in town for the next 4 days. I had business cards with a QR code printed for the event. Any scanned QR code will land on a designated page, allowing me to measure how many people out of the thousands we meet actually visit the site.
I happen to be a very "thrifty" person. Cards are cheap, easy to hand out, and tracking is free courtesy of Google Analytics.
