With my latest revision to my marketing plan, I am targeting key areas of my site one at a time. Been succesful on the first two targets. However, I hit a little snag with the Auto Market. Seems to be a complicated market to target advretisers. I figured my audience to initially be private owners, and large scale businesses. Shot for keywords through multiple pay-per-click streams. Targeted keywords: Autos (for broad match), auto classifieds (exact match), selling auto (broad match), and auto advertising (for business).

Had quite a significant response, but not one advertisement. I get the impression I am only finding people looking to purchase an auto with the above. This would be good if I had some content, but the category is empty. Anyone have some suggestions for targeting the auto market?

I have not yet launched my site yet, so this is how I am looking at the situation. So don't sum any of this up to experience.
With a site where users supply the content, starting out provides a challenge. To attract users to my site I need content, but in order to get content I need users. My plan therefore is to find people involved in different areas and offer them free advertising to help get my site going. By offering this to just a few people in each of your demographics you could add content, spread word of mouth(I know I tell everyone when i get something for free), and add some loyal customers who have a more of a connection to you, than just seeing your email address at the bottom of a page. To me, offering free ads to the public wasn't an option since I've seen many people post problems of spammers when offering free ads, and I also plan to charge eventually to advertise. I don't know how I would implement giving free ads to specific people but I would think there would be a way.
