I know some of you have developed other websites with some success. I was wondering if anyone cares to share some feedback related to Link Exchanges?

I have looked at several of them but after google and a couple of other search engine sites said that they will start to penalise people who belong to Link exchange systems I removed myself....and yet my brand recognition is high.......and i am yet to send any money on my rankings.....

Man, they want to penalise you for anything you do huh?

I guess I can see why, being that they are entering the arena of paid marketing services as well.

subscript to a ezine site called webpro world and you can keep uptodate with whats happening in the Search enginee world.

Google donot do paid advertising for links etc...only google words and that does not effect your searches like the other search engines do.

I actually subscribed to that ezine "Webpro News" after your suggestion on another post. Pretty interesting stuff. Seems like to me the majority of the content is biased. I was getting Public Relations content (Press Release). The other one begun coming from a search engine I submitted to, site pro news I think it was called.

As far as Googles advertising "adwords" I think is called. I get the impression that it is something new. Although they don't restrict you like Overture does, it's a part-time job advertising on there. I can't seem to get the Keywords right, or ad keyword combination. Keep having to restart the program. Because of the Amount of effort and the little return from them, I think I am going to pull out of advertising their. In total I havn't even had ten clicks from them yet. You can get that with bulkmail, although it costs significantly more. Additionally, everytime I look at my advertising campaign, it's stopped. Could you imagine a Newspaper telling you they stopped delivery of the paper with your ad in it?

Back to the Subject here. The reason I was asking about link exchanges, I have been considering creating a Web based directory. Not on the front door, but on the backend. Offer paid or reciprocal consideration to other sites. With my new Marketing plan, I been doing a significant amount of advertising via the Internet. I been monitoring some of the other advertisement based sites as well. It seems like many people are doing it now. I believe I found what you are talking about in the prior message. The Search Engines will be penalising people for using them link exchange websites. Personally, I didn't care for them to much myself. When I first read your message, I had the impression they would put your site at the bottom for having links to other websites.

I don't think that they will penalizing you for having a links directory as having link from others sites to yours is one of the ways they rank your site, the more popular and approriate the site that links to you the better your ranking points.

I believe that it is the 'Top 100' type sites that they will be penalizing, i have found that if you are selective about which link exchange you use you can get a good response, then once you site is established you can withdraw from it.

The old bait and Switch...

You have to love that.

I would appreciate some word of mouth referrals if you don't mind Carpman.

I know this is off topic, but I can't believe how much Email you get with online marketing. I think I understand why they mad a law this. I just blocked the entire hotmail.com server.

Why you think i want to be able to block whole domain name email addresses from the registration process... I only want people registering who have a account with a monthly billed ISP...that way i can at least track them down if i have an issue with what they are posting.

This gives me an idea :)

What about GC users linking to other GC users sites?

I know that there will be some conflicts if two or more users are targetting same users but it may work for those of us who do not have conflicting markets.

Good idea .... its the logical extnesion of of an business directory listing ad category i am busy to finish devleoping for my site listing local businesses.

At the moment oogle has about 50% of my ads cached now...... so hopefully this could work well...

Problem is you have to turn on some of the html functions in the whole site not just specific ads and that raises some abuse issues.

I like the idea, and I personally don't see no problem with linking to similar target markets. The only problem I would see is advertising rates. Other than that, you can't be gready. Not suggesting anykind of price fixing here. Just that the sites should offer comparable advertising costs.

My attitude for the next 6 months is u link to me and i link to you...its free...

But in 6 months time if my site is as busy as i hope it will be then I would wont to review it....perhaps along the line of using Phpadnews anner system for banner ads and linkages at my published rates....$1 per ad per month....New Zealand dollar that is..so u people in America it would cost approc $0.60 a month.

I am writting Google a letter for correspondence on Directories and Link Exchanges. I have read so many different things on the Internet about certain sites being blocked. I am sure they get letters about this often, but I figured worst thing is they will not respond.

That directory script is nice. However, I am just looking for something simple. I got a little something up, just have not had the time to focus on any publicity for it yet.

$0.60 a month RobertC. Thats really cheap.

Maybe we should all pitch in and do a little marketing test with a couple different directories. Each of us put one on our site in a subdomain. A links to B, B links to C, and C links back to A. Do this to help insure that spiders circulate to all of them.

One strictly paid placement, one reciprocal placement only, and one offering both. Reciprocal placement would just be a fly trap to hide our primary agenda and the test all together, to the more asertive advertisers (In my experience, people hate beign part of a Marketing test.). Naturally, we would focus publicity efforts on the paid placement directory to provide at least some return on the advertising.

Run them for a year, and monitor the outcome. Would be a small investment if anything.

I would like to test a link pattern such as above with at least two other webmasters for a month or maybe more on our classified sites, If anyone is interested. Would require at least three sites to participate the way I am thinking. From what I read, it would keep passing the Google votes back and forth. No reason to through up any flags, just simply three classified advertising sites linking to another classified advertising site.

Okay, I am really starting to get into this now.

I just found a couple of highly competitive Classified sites promoting each other similar to above, but there is several involved. I additionally found a resource doing a project using this same theory. I thik I may join in on this. They are pulling various sites from anywhere. Just not sure about the trust factor. You never know who you are dealing with when you can't see them eye to eye.
