I have an urgent problem whereby on my pageantzine site, located at pageantzine.com/peeps/, the site for the past few days has been allowing people to sign up.
I have chosen to NOT use the email verification system to have people verify themselves, as I have discovered glitches in that method.
So, they log back in and the site welcomes them....and then they fo to place an ad, and they get re routed back to the login page. And also again referred to as a guest. They have lost their login, so to speak. Please test it out for me.
I have done nothing to he coding of my site and would really appreciate your urgent help on helping me fix this problem,.
If I can get this to work, there are a lot of people looking to make this site a very successful example of your software,.
I must have clicked something wrong, etc. I need tech support. I am going on a NATIONAL television show with this site and I will keep the geodesic logo on if you will help me with this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am out of town, but available on my cell ay ***-***-****
Please please help in a way a BLONDE WOULD UNDERSTAND!!!
Thank you,
Stephanie Sims and daughter, Mindy Williams:p

Shes right.... its not getting posted into the database.
1) I registered. (WORKS)
2) Placed AD
I got all the way thru to uploading and image and all. even got the message.
Congratulations! You successfully entered your Listing.
But when I goto view my ads there is nothing there. Unless she has it shut off where she has to approve new listings.
Hope this helps.
I tested this real quick: created a new user on your site, logged in ok, and then clicked to place a new ad, and the process seems to be working ok. If it's still not working right for you, start a support ticket by emailing suport@geodesicsolutions.com -- be sure to include FTP and geoAdmin access, and they'll be able to take a closer look and figure out exactly what's going on.

Thank you to both of my repsonders!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, i do have it set so that i have to approve the ads before they show up...so that explains whty you could not immediately see the ad.
Also, just curious to both of you, did the new user process go well...?you did not receive any welcome emails, etc., did you?..because i had that feature shut down. So i was just asking that...did you get any welscome messages, etc. Ny email? I hope not.
Please, if you would not mind logging back in in a new session and posting for me, that would be a great big help!
Thank you.
But if need be, i would love help from the geo team - i have started a dialogue with them. I am having this go on the today show within about a week...and i just wanted it to work!
Thank you, steph

Everything is working fine. The email came in and welcome me and all. I don't really like the top section seems like and aweful lot of space wasted just to give a message. I always found those pal things annoying. I wear a headset so when they kick in they are so loud I have grab the headset off my head.
But the ad process is running great. Good job....

SOMEBODY HAVE A HEART PLEASE.................
I wrote to support and sales wrote back and suggested what I might need is an upgrade...This is a new install, only about a month old....They chose to install the older version for me, not the newer version. I spoke to GeoModules who was very helpful.....Long story there ABOUT THE FACT AS TO WHETHER I SHOULD BE UPGRADED...I THINK SINCE IT WAS A NEW INSTALL, I should not need to be upgraded......
I was told that the older version I have needs yo be hosted on php 4...and it is ... I am still being hosted on php 4, which is what the old version of the site I have - you all installed this for me about a month ago - is on.
In other words, this software was only installed by you guys about a month ago - It's the clasified basic older version that is best to tun on php 4, and that is what my host has it on. I have worked very hard to make a cute site that works. http;//pageantzine.com/peeps/
The problem is this...people can sign up, they receive a welcome letter, etc...and then when they log in, the site greets them with their new user name, i.e. 'Welcome, Mary', etc....then they click place ad, and they keep getting redirected to the log in page, as if they are in fact not logged in..They lose their 'logged in' status...the same thing happens if they go to any of the member areas, such as my filters, my ads, my favorites...They just seem to lose their logged in status. I am running internet explorer, non vista operating system. I myself had the problem once OUT OF OVER 50 TRIES, but i do not usually have any trouble. I have 3 different friends, though, that are all trying to help me test this and they all are experiencing the phenomenon i am describing. We have cleared cookies, caches, etc.
Please someone help me...
Stephanie
Is there anyone who has experienced this or anything like it...I LOVE THIS SOFTWARE - I JUST WANT IT TO WORK AND CANNOT AFFORD AN UPGRADE FOR A SOFTWARE THAT WAS JUST INSTALLED A MONTH AGO.

I just created a user, logged out, logged in again, placed an ad, no problems. I did not see my ad in the category but you said you have manual approval on so it won't show up until you approve it. I'm not seeing a problem unless you have manual approval off and the ad is still not showing up.

I too can not reproduce the problem.
I wrote to support and sales wrote back and suggested what I might need is an upgrade...This is a new install, only about a month old....They chose to install the older version for me, not the newer version.
At that time, 4.0 was not released yet. If you purchased a month ago, you would have 3.1.9 which is very stable. No one working at Geodesic Solutions would have installed a version that is older than version 3.1.9 if this was done only a month ago, but I see you are running version 2.0.4 which is a very old version.
I was told that the older version I have needs yo be hosted on php 4...and it is ... I am still being hosted on php 4, which is what the old version of the site I have - you all installed this for me about a month ago - is on.

That sounds about right, your site is using a much older platform that was first released before PHP 5 was even created.
I have worked very hard to make a cute site that works. http;//pageantzine.com/peeps/
You are using a very old version, version 2.0.4. You say that we installed it for you, but it would not be someone from Geodesic Solutions, as we have not used that version since we released the Geo 3.0 platform, I believe over a year ago. If someone installed this for you just a month ago, something weird is going on.
There is a version 2.0.4 for download in the client area, but that is ONLY to be used as part of the update process, for anyone updating from Geo Classifieds Basic that is older than 2.0.4, they need to use that download to update them to 2.0.4 then they would get the latest version to update the rest of the way.
Just to be sure, where did you purchase the software from, and who installed it for you?
Is there anyone who has experienced this or anything like it...I LOVE THIS SOFTWARE - I JUST WANT IT TO WORK AND CANNOT AFFORD AN UPGRADE FOR A SOFTWARE THAT WAS JUST INSTALLED A MONTH AGO.
If you purchased it only a month ago, you can download the latest version from our client area. With a new purchase you have 1 full year of e-mail support and software updates.

The person I originally dealt with was Robert. I originally made a special deal where I bought 2 licences and installs at the same time. At that time, we only installed one of them, which seems still to be working fine, I think - I have never had any complaints, but that web site is a work in progress.
THIS NEW INSTALL, Geodesic did install it only about a month ago, is fulfilling my second license that I had never had installed before.....So a little over a month ago, I did speak to someone on the phone - I asked to have the install done, as I did have the credit for it, what version this install would be, etc. I asked if I would be able to change the templates, etc...and the person, Brian, I believe, told me that I would be able to do so, that it would be the current version of BASIC...In other words, EVEN THE PERSON THERE AT Geodesic arranging for the install for me thought I would be getting the current version installed.
Apparently, since the version I technically bought 2 years ago was the older version, that is the version that was installed for me.
Regarding the trouble we are having with users losing their login abilities, I know it sounds like a weird problem, and I am fine with the version if it would just work.
I FEEL BADLY THAT WE CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. BUT I ASK THAT, IF YOU THINK ASKING MY SERVER TO GO UP TO PHP 5 AND MAYBE HELPING ME UPGRADE, SINCE YOU ALL DID JUST INSTALL THIS ABOUT A MONTH AGO, IF YOU WOULD PLEASE CONSIDER DOING THIS UPGRADE FOR ME.
Thank you and I really do need the help.

The forums are not the place to discuss this, if you have not already, supply the info you did here in the helpdesk ticket and we would be happy to talk to you about it through the helpdesk system.

There are no known issues with loging in like you are describing that I know of. You say yourself that the first installation is working fine.
Did you base the design of the second installation on the first one? If so, it could be that you have some reference somewhere to the other installation, and that is causing the other installation to reset your cookies. Or, if you were to visit the other installation after you have logged into the first one, that would also cause you to be logged out as it would also clear your cookies.
It could also be a possible problem with the settings you are using, but I am not familiar with your version so I do not know what you would need to look for.
It could also be a PHP compatibility problem, which if that is the case, the only way to fix is to update to the latest version.

Thank you to those who helped me and those who tried. *I am sure that I do want to upgrade as soon as possible, but I cannot afford to do so right now..However, found out that the reason people were having trouble was apparently that I had another url pointed and masked to this little classifieds online store.
*When I would post the address here for you all to check out, I was typing in the complete address. However, when others came to the site, they were coming as a link from another site, which I had forwarded to a certain page on my host and "masked".
The host company said that it was the masking that was not allowing the php to "look" properly for the next logical pages to go to, thereby not remembering from page to page that someone had signed / logged in.
If you ever have another user that has this type of problem, I hope this helps you.
*Now, I certainly would not mind an upgrade if you were just feeling nice - I have been working really hard!

For anyone reading this, just wanted to note that it is always best to discuss order/upgrade or anything to do with payments or your license in the helpdesk rather than in the public forums. It is simply a privacy issue. To make an analogy: If your CC was declined when shopping at a grocery store, would you want the cashier at the store to tell you by announcing it on the PA system? (that analogy has nothing to do with this situation, that was just an example to illustrate the privacy point)

I'm so glad you were able to find the problem! Thanks for posting the solution in case anyone else has a similar problem in the future, they will know one of the things to check for.
