Hello everyone,
Throughout the past year that I have had my site up and running, I have found that nearly 1/3 of all users that try to place ads, end up quitting due to the problems with ad blocking software. Admin says that only Norton causes this problem, but many I talk with say they don't have Norton, and they can never seem to figure out how to disable whatever ad blocker they do have(even with my help). As far as I'm concerned this alone has led to the complete failure of this site, as I've spent over $15000.00 on advertising this past year.(I can't find any other reason) It's probably too late now, but I would appreciate any knowledge that any of you have that could correct this problem in the Enterprise(and probably all) of the software. Thank you. Greg homselr@prodigy.net

What is happening?

Are they having trouble signing up, or are images not showing up?

I have Norton Internet Security... I have to admit that there are times when it is a little too protective, but then I'm not always sure whether the issue is with it or with IE, even though IE is set ad Medium security level. I've had terrible time trying to access the Overture.com bid report and keyword suggestion because of entering the security image code. But I digress....

Luckily I am still getting set up, but I did just change the directory for my images to something other than "adimages"

I had to turn Norton Ad Blocking off, since no images were showing up... but then I started getting worried about the impact this might cause, so I tried changing the directory name, guessing that Norton was keying in on the "ad" part of the directory name, and remembering having a similar issue with some Google AdSense placements on some sites.

That took care of it, and now the images display even with the ad blocking function working.

Hope that helped.

Hello and thank you for your reply. The problem is in ad placement. The user enters description and they are never taken to photo/image page. They are just left in limbo with no page to go to except cancel ad and start all over.(which obviously they give up after a time or two). Admin has said this is due to ad blocking software, and I have been able to duplicate this with Norton Internet Security. However, many individuals state they don't have Norton, and are unaware of other ad blocking software which is probably a part of their Internet providers services. Anyway, I have had so many problems with users and this problem, that I have no doubts as to whether or not this is affecting this sites success. Thanks again, maybe admin knows of something that they can do to correct the software? Greg

That is a bit strange.

I'm just getting started here, so I'm anything but an expert yet. So far on my test site, I've been able to place ads fine, with blocking on, and all ad photos show fine now that I made the change mentioned earlier.

I guess I'd recommend trying to troubleshoot, which you've probably done but....

- trying on various browsers
- trying w/ and w/o ad blocking and pop-up blocking
- possibly try w firewall off
- try clearing the browser cache, clearing cookies, and try adjusting the security level

I'm really wondering if there is something going on at the browser level with cookies and security settings, but not even sure how Geo handles all of that processing anyway.

I'm assuming that you are running a straight http connection and not running this through https.... though that may or may not have any impact anyway, just thinking outloud.

Anyway, good luck. I know all to well the frustrations of the web, browsers, software, and trying to get everything to play nice!
