I believe ezclassifieds.com has a newsgroup (usenet) feed into their URL application. So, they grab newsgroup posts and list them on their site. I think they also have ability to post on their site and send it back to appropriate newsgroups. Any plans of adding this type of functionality to Geo? I'm not sure what is involved in pruning the "spam" from newsgroups.

This is a bit off topic but along the same lines. I know there is a mod for phpBB that allows you to pull/push to newsgroups from the forum. I believe it's called "newssync". It looks like talkaboutclassifieds.com is also doing it.

Good way of getting lots of site content. I'm not sure if it harm your SEO.

Most likely not unless there is a huge hidden need for this that we are not aware of.

Certainly might help with SEO but feel it would reduce the actual effectiveness of the classifieds or the newsgroups. Seems with the newsgroup posts there is no easy way to sift/search through the ads. You have to read the content of each description. There is only a title and description and no easy way to categorize the information. There would be huge amounts of information to sift through just to find the ones you are interested in.

I totally agree but if you feed from a newsgroups that has good mods who monitor spam then this may reduce your trimming load. Or maybe one could set some GEO filters so you don't "post" to your own forum if your filter matches. Example: you grab newsgroups data, run through filter if it passes then post to your own forum.

I don't know what the best way would be to do this, but it may be helpfull if one finds out how this is dealt with in ezclassifieds and in talkaboutclassifieds

Our hands are pretty full at the moment so any research you can provide would speed things along.

If posting to the newsgroup:
Is there a way to "turn off" the newsgroup post within the newsgroup itself? Once the ad has expired your clients wouldn't want to be bothered about it again under most circumstances.

If pulling from the newsgroups:
When you say "GEO filters" are you saying that a search of each "newsgroup post" retrieved is conducted using keyterms to keep, classify or throw away the post within your classified system?
